Beachfront Wedding in Santa Margherita Ligure

Italy boasts many destinations for sensational celebrations, but a wedding in Santa Margherita Ligure is the greatest combination of a seaside setting and a vintage Italian village. Santa Margherita Ligure is, in fact, the summer holiday destination of many VIPs from Liguria and northern Italy, who have grown up and fallen in love here, and often return to celebrate their wedding. But Santa Margherita in recent years is also one of the most attractive destinations for international weddings, thanks to the many features and its proximity to fantastic places like Portofino and the Cinque Terre.

Bride and groom flew in from North America to celebrate their wedding together with friends and family. The ceremony and the reception took place in the garden of Castello Canevaro, in Zoagli. The castle is a romantic and charming venue, perched high on the sea cliff tops. You can get there turning off the windy waterfront road onto the sweeping gravel path. It’s a unique and memorable place with stunning views over the bay below to Portofino, perfect also for beach weddings in Italy. There’s also a very narrow private path leading to the small pebble beach below, which guests used for some snapshots on the beachfront.

As for their wedding photos, we went to the beautiful gardens of Villa Durazzo, in Santa Margherita. The villa is situated in one of the best spots with great views. The villa is really worth seeing; the mosaic entrance courtyard is impressive, great staircase, and Murano glass chandeliers in almost every room. Civil weddings often are arranged here. The gardens of Villa Durazzo are a quiet refuge for scenic contemplation. Here you can learn the Italian art of Dolce Far Niente (doing nothing), just enjoying the view of the Tigullio Gulf. If not enough, the baroque church of St James with its stunning interiors is just around the corner. We didn’t have a lot of time for wedding photos but it was great to shoot here anyway; some pictures of the newlyweds wandering around the gardens, and a few candid shots with a view of the bay and the yachts as the background. That’s it!

An incredible sunset welcomed the bride and groom as they returned to the castle. The rest was taken care of by their friends and families, with whom the newlyweds spent the last part of this wonderful wedding in Santa Margherita Ligure. Please see below some photos of the event!
