In Italy, it is called the lovers’ getaway. You couldn’t find a more romantic name to define it. The one famous in the 60s and 70s, when lovers from the south of Italy flee to the north to avoid marriages of convenience. After the sixties, many things have changed. The elopement has become a recurring thought in all the couples looking for a different way to celebrate a wedding; something that is more intimate and authentic; something that might also be the occasion for a great honeymoon.
There are endless locations in Italy where you can have your matrimony. Would you like to celebrate your union on a rock by the ocean at sunset? Would you rather do it on a slope in winter? Or on a tower with a view of church wedding with an English speaking priest;
Nowadays, many luxury venues arrange real civil ceremonies in-house. You can have the chance to celebrate beautiful rites in the garden with the mayor as the celebrant. You can charge a wedding planner to deal with the Italian bureaucracy for you.
Later on, a nice dinner with homemade food and local wine to celebrate and toast the newlyweds!
Beginning of the honeymoon
Tuscany is also the perfect place to start a fairytale honeymoon. Florence, Lucca, San Gimignano and Siena are perfect for holidays between art and nature. The luxurious beach resorts of Versilia are ideal for those seeking nightlife and fashion. The Cinque Terre with their turquoise water are just a few kilometres away. If this is not enough, you can take a train and get to Venice or Rome in a couple of hours.
Time to think
Planning a wedding is tough. It might make you lose the meaning of marriage itself. Let’s be honest: the elopement is nothing more than a wedding where there is no one else but the couple and the celebrant. And, of course, the photographer!
Not having specific tasks to do, the elopement is the perfect choice to live the intense emotions of the wedding wholly.
Low budget wedding
The elopement is an excellent choice if you wish to invest in a few but essential things. Why waste money with guests when you can spend them in a wedding for a chosen few?! If you’re not happy with having 200 people at your reception you must find a more private solution. The elopement is just right for you!
Elope in Italy!
Italy is the perfect place to organize an elopement. From Chianti weddings to beach celebrations at sunset, I’m always surprised by the endless creativity of my clients.
Imagine a ceremony on a little island in the middle of a lake. The silence broken by the wind that moves the branches of a willow tree. A table, two candles, and the love of your life in front of you. Isn’t it all so romantic?
Running away with the loved one is flashed to all the brides at least once during the organization of the wedding. Many give up, but for those who accept the challenge, their elopement is just the beginning of a beautiful and unforgettable experience.
